When I first opened the package I was impressed with the packaging and case that came with the Persol 714 folding model. I use them on the ocean here in Bermuda and find them to be very soothing with undistorted clarity of vision and with a comfortable fit. Never had sun glasses feel this good. I can wear them throughout the day with seemingly no strain at all on my eyes.Very happy.Folding sunglasses. Make you look instantly cool and gives you the ability to sing. Maybe that’s why rock stars wear sunny glassesApart from the Steve McQueen 60s and 70s chic, this is an overall excellent pair of glasses. It has a timeless elegance and it can be worn by anyone no matter young or old as the 714s have stayed faithful to their original 60s design. It just flatters your face no matter the circumstances as it has a versatility no other sunglasses have and the vintage cool look can be either formal or casual. Personally this is my third pair of 714s over a span of 15 years and they've been extremely resistant and durable. I don't fold them very often (so if you're not after this feature, perhaps the 649s would be better value-wise) but the style alone justifies the price. And with the discounted price on Amazon, I don't see any reason why anyone wouldn't go for a pair of Persols over some flimsy generic Ray Bans. I can't see any issue with them; only perhaps that they're nearly impossible to get them lensed (or re-lensed) as not many places accept the responsibility and the lenses are generally extremely expenses. But otherwise, 100% worth the price. In fact, buy a second pair!Decided to try these because of the price and because I love the special edition Capri Persol glasses I’ve owned for years. The flex in the arms make these very comfortable to wear. Comes wrapped in original plastic inside Persol case and box. I didn’t realize the sunglass case was going to be so small—a size where your glasses always need to be folded to fit. I will be buying a sunglass sleeve for these because the hardware on these glasses make me nervous. Folding the arms in and out of the mechanism takes a bit of force and I’m not ready to put so much wear and tear on these glasses right away. I’m very disappointed that these glasses came with so many imperfections. I just received them today and the frame is dinged in so many places. Some are scratches and some are scrapes. Luckily the lenses are flawless. Tempered glass and not polarized lenses if you’re wondering. The damage to to frame makes me nervous about the authenticity of these glasses, but the quality and weight of the acetate, hardware, and lenses compared to my much more expensive Persol glasses make me believe these are genuine...just damaged. Holding off on wearing until I decide whether it’s worth returning.my new favorite pair! these sunglasses are awesome and look amazing! would buy again in a heartbeat!I ordered this Persol model sunglasses, although, via a different seller that was fulfilled by Amazon. My wife and I both have the "Club Master" Ray Bans, also "Made in Italy." The Persol is superior.Persol is known worldwide for having superior hinges. My sunglasses were delivered "NEW," precisely as advertised. Unfortunately, there was a VERY minor manufacturing defect in the hinge where the two lens fold. The problem was that the lens would move slightly when putting on the sunglasses. There should not be any movement, except when applying pressure to fold the lens. When folding the lens it does require a slight bit of force in folding the lens, so that the sunglasses function as a regular non folding pair until when needed to fold such as maybe traveling. These sunglasses are different from any you most likely have owned are tried on. You can wear these sunglasses all day long while driving or any other outdoor activity.I did return the pair that I received, but will definitely be reordering. Purchasing via Amazon fulfillment was "no brainer" decision. I got a prompt refund issued, once the return package was in the UPS tracking system. This was done within 12 hours from when I dropped off the package.Thank you very much Amazon!!UPDATE: 12-30-2016I purchased two of these same identical Persol 714 from the same seller, return/refund, reorder. Each order delivered had the same identical problem with the lens. The left lens moves with the slightest touch. The lens DO NOT move unless when applying pressure to fold the lens. The same amount of pressure needs to be applied as when folding the arms. The same as the arms, the lens snap into place and remain snugly locked in place until folding, which does require some pressure. The lens when unfolded and snapped into place have what is best described as a "friction fit." The lens and the middle section of the bridge have a tight 'friction fit' to hold the lens snugly in place. These do not have that type of precise fit, at least the two that I received did not.I ordered a third pair from a different seller here at Amazon which are the polarized version of the Persol 714, "prescription ready." Since I do wear prescription glasses, I thought this may be exactly what I need since there may be something slightly different about the lens frames. Once again, I received the sunglasses with the same identical problem, only worse. The left lens would simply dangle. It was that loose.I took the second pair of the Persol 714 (Havana) grey/green lens to a local retailer to compare the sunglasses I received with the pair the store had on display for sale. They both had the same identical appearance. The pair I received appeared new. What I discovered is that the retailer's pair of folding lenses are NOT loose. It required me to apply the same amount of pressure to fold the lens as in folding the arms.I had planned to have prescription lens installed in my Persol 714, once I received a decent pair of frames. After three attempts, I don't think that will happen. In my opinion, if you wear prescription sunglasses look around and pay a little more to get a good pair of frames. I generally wear prescription sunglasses for 4-5 years before needing a new prescription. These frames would not last more than 1 (maybe) 2 years, if you are lucky.CONCLUSION: If you return/reorder within the time frame allowed by Amazon, after several attempts, you might get a pair of Persol 714's that are not in the condition as I have described. Apparently, the sellers here are selling new, but factory defective Persol 714's; hence, the discount pricing. CHECK THIS OUT: [...]I love the look of these Persol sunglasses. I have them in a black frame with green, polarized lenses. I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 stars because I am disappointed by the quality / variance I have found in the hinges. First, I had to return two pair of sunglasses because one side of the nose bridge did not "click" in place, so the glasses were unstable. As it was the same retailer - eshades - I thought it was mainly an issue with them, not the sunglasses. However, even the third pair I received from a different retailer is not "solid", not the quality I would expect from such an expensive pair of sunglasses. The hinges on the nose bridge click in place, but it is not a stable position: one can always get a few degrees of movement at the nose bridge. The right temple solidly clicks in place, however the left temple does not behave in the same way, it does not click in place. It is too much variance in behavior for the expense: these are top sunglasses, they should not vary so much in different pairs. I ended up keeping the last pair, but it was not worth 5 stars.Like anyone reading this review, Persol was brought to my attention because of my idol, Steve McQueen. These are my third pair of sunglasses, having owned two Ray-Bans previously. As a pair of sunglasses, the protection from the sun is brilliant. These glasses wrap around your eyes nicely and block out the sun, so they're also ideal for driving. In the flesh they look better than I could ever have imagined and the two halves of the frame feel really solid. The folding mechanism is also just so unique and stylish. They fit pretty nicely on my face and I have received several compliments - people seem to notice an expensive brand that is something other than Ray-Bans.I will note however that the folding mechanism is fiddly. It's easy enough to work out how to fold the glasses, but it is rather delicate, and after six months of ownership I still fret about breaking them. The shape of the glasses also prevents them from hanging comfortably from, say, a shirt or t-shirt. This means I'm constantly folding and unfolding them from the case, which in turn means I spend a lot of time tightening the screws in the joints, just so they don't feel loose. This hasn't proved to be a major problem so far. With the glasses being so unique I'd recommend trying on a pair IF you can. I got quite lucky with mine - I wouldn't want them any smaller. Persol is a great brand worth the money and there are a wealth of options to choose from, but if you want the full McQueen experience, I don't think you can do better than a folding pair. These sunglasses are the best I've ever had, and given that I've used shades by firms like Ray Ban, Bole, Blinde, and Randolph Engineering, this is something I never thought I'd find myself writing. There are several reasons why I'm praising them so much. First of all, the lenses are excellent. The tint is perfect and the optical quality is great. Secondly, the fit. I have quite a large face and therefore Wayfarer-type shades don't work for me - but because these are bigger, almost aviator-style lenses, they do the job exceptionally well. Thirdly, the build quality. The frames are absolutely beautiful... hand made? You betcha! The metal inserts that hold the things together are a work of art in themselves. And finally, the folding system is wonderful. If you like Brompton bikes, you're gonna love these shades. All in all, I think Persol have absolutely nailed it with these Havana 714s. No wonder Steve McQueen wore them - they're an absolute treat! No wonder they are so popular with those who require only the best. made famous by the likes of Steve Mcqueen, Persol 0714 folding sunglasses, are one of the most sought after and collected pair of sunglasses in history! With this same classic shape as the Persol 0649 model only with a frame design which folded, this added the perfect cool factor.the glass lenses give you crystal clear vision with amazing clarityPersol is a synonym of intrinsic class, elegance and highest quality. Persol glasses have been a worldwide symbol of Italian's eyewear craftsmanship for decadesThese are great sunglasses they are my second pair they are that nice my first pair got nicked, bought Oakleys to replace however had to go back to these. Build quality is great they look fantastic, people alway comment on them, I wont be leaving them on a beer garden table againOverall love these sunglasses.Very high glass quality lenses, polarised glare reduction, solid build and really happy with the look/brand heritage. The folding design is brilliant - fit perfectly in my top pocket when not needed.Downsides - glass lenses are heavy if you're used to plastic. This means they leave welts on bridge of my nose after prolonged wear.I also think they could do with some more grippy material on the nose piece (which is hard/smooth acetate) - the weight of the lenses means these can slip slightly down my nose every so often. The hinges on the arms occasionally pull the hair on the side of my head out. Also be aware that polarised lenses make it hard to see LCD screens - this can be a pain when using phone/satnav/smart watch etc
